On August 9, 2025, the Newark community lost a vibrant and loving soul - Shaneequah Williams. She was a mother. A grandmother. A true friend. She had a heart of gold and a soul that lit up every room she entered. Her laughter was contagious, her presence comforting, and her love for her family and friends was unmatched.

Those who knew Shaneequah speak of her kindness, her strength, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. She was the kind of person who would give her last to help someone else. She celebrated the victories of those she loved, no matter how small, and she never hesitated to stand by someone in their time of need.

Shaneequah’s life was tragically cut short in an act of domestic violence, a cruel and irreversible betrayal by someone who claimed to love her. Her passing is a painful reminder that love should never hurt, and no one should have to fear the person they share their life with.

It’s okay to leave.
It’s okay to speak up.
But it is never okay to be murdered by the person who says they love you.

Domestic violence does not discriminate. It affects people of all backgrounds, ages, and walks of life. Too often, it hides behind closed doors until it’s too late. Shaneequah’s story underscores why we must keep talking about it, keep fighting against it, and keep providing resources and safe exits for those who are at risk.

The Campbell House stands in solidarity with all survivors and with the families who have lost loved ones to domestic violence. We will remember Shaneequah, and we will keep fighting for her, and for every victim whose voice has been silenced.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, please know that help is available, and you are not alone:

💜 Rest in peace, Shaneequah. We will not forget you.
