"There are some stories that never fade, because they’re rooted in love, loss, and the legacy we choose to grow from them."

This space is sacred.
Here, we honor the lives that shaped The Campbell House. The ones whose strength became our soil. Whose light guides the work we do. And whose memory continues to move us, push us, and plant purpose in every girl we serve.

Our roots remind us of where we’ve been, so we can build a future that’s safer, more compassionate, and more whole.

Honoring Margaret Campbell

A letter from Kim,

The Campbell House stands on the shoulders of those whose strength became our foundation. For me, that strength has always been my grandmother, Margaret Campbell.

As a little girl, I was never far from her side. I was her tagalong buddy, trailing behind her, watching her every move, learning from her every word. To me, she wasn’t just my grandmother—she was my first superhero. Even now, years later, I still find myself looking up to her, measuring myself by the example she set with quiet grace and unwavering love.

My grandmother embodied the very definition of family. She was our safe place, the steady presence who made every room brighter with her warmth. She gave of herself without limits, pouring love and care into her children and grandchildren, teaching us by example what it means to nurture, to forgive, and to hold family close. Her hugs, her laughter, and her words of wisdom remain etched in my heart like treasures I carry everywhere I go.

If I am the grandmother I am today, it is because of her. She gave me not only the tools but also the heart and the wisdom to love my family deeply and fiercely. She showed me how to lead with gentleness, how to stand with strength, and how to give without hesitation. Through her, I learned that true love leaves a legacy that cannot be broken by time or distance.

On May 28, 2016, at 2:07 PM, my grandmother gained her wings. That moment left an ache that words will never fully capture. And yet, her spirit has never left me. She lives in the work I do, in the heart of The Campbell House, and in every girl we serve. Her love is stitched into the very fabric of this mission, reminding me that to give love is the most powerful inheritance of all.

Her legacy is my purpose. Her memory is my strength. Everything I build, every door I open, and every life we touch through The Campbell House is in honor of her. I am because of you, Grandma. And because of you, countless young women will know what it feels like to be loved, supported, and believed in.

In Loving Memory of Kashidah Cox

A letter from Kim,

Kashidah Cox was more than my little sister by love—she was my heart, my son’s aunt, and a radiant soul who left an everlasting imprint on everyone who knew her. The only girl among her siblings, she grew up navigating challenges that many her age should never have had to face. And yet, even in those moments, she carried herself with a grace and resilience that shined through. Her presence was full of laughter, love, and light, reminding all of us what it meant to keep going with courage.

When I stepped into the role of her big sister, I thought I was offering her guidance, protection, and love. The truth is, she gave just as much back to me—her wisdom, her kindness, and her way of making even the hardest days a little brighter. To love Kashidah was to witness strength and softness coexisting in the same heartbeat.

Her teenage years were tragically cut short, and losing her remains one of the deepest pains I have ever carried. But out of that heartbreak came a promise I made to her spirit—that her life would not be forgotten, that her name would live on in the work I do every single day. It was Kashidah who planted the seed for The Campbell House, inspiring me to dedicate my life to opening doors and creating safe spaces for young women. Because of her, The Campbell House has its soul and its purpose: to honor girls like her, who deserve love, mentorship, and opportunities to flourish. My very first home for young ladies will forever carry her name and her legacy.

Kashidah was not only my sister—she was an amazing auntie who adored her nephew and poured her heart into family. She blessed us with her laughter, her hugs, her playful spirit, and her unwavering love. I thank God every day for the gift of knowing her, walking beside her, and loving her.

Rest in peace, baby girl. Your light lives on in me, in your family, and in every young woman who finds her way to The Campbell House. Everything I do here is for you—and through this work, your legacy will continue to guide and inspire for generations to come.

In Loving Memory of Chavon “Chach” Moore

Her laughter had a rhythm all its own—bright, contagious, and impossible to forget. Her attitude? Bold, unapologetic, and magnetic. And her heart—wide open, full of love, full of promise. Chavon Lynnette Sharae Moore—known to her family and friends as “Chach”—was a force of light in the lives of everyone who knew her.

At just 16 years old, Chach was a young mother to a baby boy, who she loved fiercely, and dreamed of giving him the world. She was a big sister to her twin sisters, an adorning niece, a loyal friend, and that annoying yet loveable cousin everyone has.  She was preparing for prom, ready to step into her next chapter, when her life was tragically taken on May 6th, 1995—as a victim of teenage domestic violence.

Back in 1995, there were not many safe havens like the Campbell House. Chach, like so many others, tried to keep the abuse hidden. When her loved ones discovered the truth, with the help of friends and family, she began the journey toward healing, courageously rebuilding her life. She was choosing herself. Choosing her son. Choosing to heal.

But on a fateful night  in May 1995—darkness struck. A life full of light, promise, and laughter was gone far too soon. The pain of losing her is still heavy. But her story did not end there.

Over the years her cousin, Kim Moore Mitchell, has carried Chach’s memory forward with purpose. In Chach’s honor, Kim gifts young women something Chach never had the chance to experience: a magical prom night, full of beauty, confidence, and joy.

Deserving young women are chosen and celebrated. They are given the full glam experience—custom gowns, professional makeup, elegant accessories. The moment they slip into that gown, when the final zipper closes and they turn to the mirror and truly see themselves, something extraordinary happens. It's as if Chach is right there, smiling through them, whispering, You are worthy. You are radiant, shine, and always remember love should never hurt.

With every young woman who walks into her prom night feeling unstoppable—Chach lives on. She lives on not in tragedy, but in the power of love, remembrance, and transformation.

Why We Speak Up

1 in 3 teens in the U.S. will experience physical, emotional, or verbal abuse from a dating partner.

  • Only 33% of them will ever tell anyone.

  • Young women between 16–24 are 3x more likely to experience intimate partner violence than any other group.

  • Homicide is one of the leading causes of death for pregnant and postpartum women in the U.S., often by partners.

Teen violence is real.
And so is our responsibility to interrupt it—with love, safety, and truth.

How We Continue Chach’s Legacy

Each spring, in Chach’s honor, her family selects a deserving young woman to receive:

  • An all-expenses-paid prom gown, styling, shoes, and photoshoot

  • Transportation, dinner, and care throughout the night

  • A spotlight feature to share her story (if she chooses)

This annual gift is a promise—a way to turn heartbreak into hope.
It’s a celebration of Chach’s life, and a reminder to each girl chosen that she is seen, valued, and never alone.
